Downloading for Offline
Downloading for Offline
One of GapFix's most powerful features is the ability to download Boosters and plan lessons to your device for offline access. Whether you're on a flight, commuting on a subway without data, or simply want to reduce data usage, offline access ensures your learning never stops.
Why Download for Offline?
Uninterrupted learning: Travel, commuting, and other times without consistent internet are perfect opportunities for learning. Offline access means dead zones and spotty connections don't stop your progress.
Data efficiency: Video and image-heavy content downloads once rather than streaming repeatedly, using less cellular data and battery.
Focused learning: Offline mode removes the temptation to check notifications or switch apps. You're fully immersed in learning.
Reliability: Even in areas with poor connectivity, your downloaded content loads instantly.
Privacy: Downloaded content stays on your device without constant server communication.
What Can You Download?
Boosters: All Booster types can be downloaded—Tips & Tricks, Frameworks, Templates, and Case Studies.
Plan Lessons: Your 90-day personalized learning plan lessons can be downloaded.
Templates and resources: Templates and supplementary materials attached to Boosters can be downloaded.
Progress tracking: Your completed Booster list and stats sync when you reconnect, so offline progress is preserved.
How to Download Boosters
Method 1: From a Booster
- Open any Booster you want to download
- Tap the download icon (usually a downward arrow) at the top of the Booster
- Wait for the download to complete (size ranges from 2-15 MB typically)
- You'll see a "Downloaded" indicator appear
- The Booster is now available offline
Method 2: From Booster Library
- In the Boosters library, find the Booster you want
- Long-press the Booster card (or tap the three-dot menu)
- Select "Download for Offline"
- The download begins immediately
Method 3: Batch Download
To download multiple Boosters at once:
- In the Boosters library, tap "Select Multiple" (or use the menu option)
- Check the boxes next to the Boosters you want to download
- Tap "Download Selected"
- All selected Boosters download in the background
Batch downloading is efficient if you're preparing for a trip and want to download 5-10 Boosters at once.
Method 4: Auto-Download (Premium Only)
Premium subscribers can enable Auto-Download for recommended content:
- Go to Settings > Learning Preferences
- Enable "Auto-Download Recommendations"
- Choose: "Daily," "Weekly," or "As Recommended"
- GapFix automatically downloads 1-3 new recommended Boosters daily (or weekly)
This ensures you always have fresh content available offline without manual downloads.
Checking Download Status
Downloaded content is indicated by:
- A checkmark icon on Booster cards in the library
- A storage indicator showing how much space Booster content uses
- An "Offline" badge on a Booster you're viewing while not connected to internet
To see all your downloaded content:
- Go to Settings > Downloaded Content
- See a list of all offline Boosters
- See total storage used
- Manage or delete downloaded content
Storage Management
Downloaded Boosters use device storage. Typical storage usage:
- Single Booster: 2-8 MB (text-heavy content uses less; video content uses more)
- 20 Boosters: ~80-150 MB
- Full library: GapFix limits offline storage to prevent device slowdown
Checking available storage:
Go to Settings > Storage to see:
- How much storage GapFix is using
- How much space is available on your device
- Recommendations for managing space
If you're running low on storage:
- Remove downloaded Boosters you've already completed
- Prioritize downloading only your next week's planned Boosters
- Delete old downloaded content from previous months
- GapFix will suggest which content to remove if you're approaching limits
Automatic cleanup (Premium):
Premium users can enable automatic removal of downloaded content:
- After completion (delete automatically)
- After 30 days (delete old downloads automatically)
- After 60 days (delete very old downloads automatically)
Free users must manually delete downloaded content.
Syncing and Updates
When you reconnect to the internet, GapFix automatically:
- Syncs your progress: Marks downloaded Boosters as completed if you finished them offline
- Updates XP and streaks: Your engagement metrics sync immediately
- Refreshes recommendations: Your recommendations update based on recent activity
- Notifies you: Any important updates or new relevant Boosters appear
No action is required—syncing happens in the background when you're connected.
Note on Booster updates: If a Booster is updated after you download it, the updated version downloads automatically if you're connected. Your notes and progress on that Booster are preserved.
Downloading Plan Lessons
Your 90-day personalized learning plan lessons can also be downloaded:
- From your plan view, tap the download icon next to any lesson
- Or go to Plan > Manage Downloads and select which lessons to download
- Current week's lessons can be batch-downloaded in one action
- Downloaded lessons show a checkmark and "Offline Available" badge
Many users download their entire next week of plan lessons on Sunday evening to ensure uninterrupted access throughout the week.
Downloading Templates and Resources
When a Booster includes a template or resource:
- Open the Booster
- Scroll to the Templates or Resources section
- Tap the download icon next to each template
- Templates save to your device's Files app (iOS) or Downloads folder
- You can now edit and use the template offline
Downloaded templates are yours to customize and reuse indefinitely.
Offline Mode Limitations
While offline, you can:
- View downloaded Boosters and lessons
- Take notes on lessons
- Mark Boosters as completed
- View your progress and stats (last synced data)
- Download templates and resources
You cannot (without internet):
- Search the library or filter Boosters
- Access live quizzes or interactive elements
- See real-time leaderboard positions
- Download additional content
- Stream video content not fully cached
- Access discussions or community features
Pro Tips for Offline Learning
Plan ahead: Download content before trips or times you know you'll be offline.
Weekly prep: Sunday evening, download next week's plan lessons and 2-3 recommended Boosters.
Batch download before trips: If traveling, download 10-15 Boosters to ensure variety.
Check storage: Before a trip, verify you have adequate storage and that downloads completed successfully.
Offline productivity: Use offline learning time to take detailed notes—you won't be distracted by notifications.
Sync after traveling: When you're back online, ensure your progress syncs by opening the app and waiting a moment.
Troubleshooting Offline Issues
Download keeps failing:
- Check you have adequate storage space
- Check wifi or cellular connection is stable
- Try closing and reopening the app
- Go to Settings > App Cache and clear cache, then retry download
Downloaded Booster is outdated:
- Delete the Booster from offline storage
- When reconnected, download the latest version
Progress didn't sync after going online:
- Check you're connected to internet
- Close and reopen the app
- Go to Settings > Account and tap "Sync Now"
- Check that your account is logged in correctly
Storage filling up quickly:
- Review which Boosters are using the most space (usually video-heavy content)
- Delete completed Boosters you won't revisit
- Disable Auto-Download if you have it enabled
Videos stutter in offline Booster:
- Video playback quality may be reduced depending on download quality
- Re-download the Booster at higher quality when you're near wifi
- Some older devices may have difficulty with video—try text-heavy Boosters instead
