Canceling Your Subscription
Canceling Your Subscription
Canceling your Premium subscription is simple and can be done anytime directly within the app. This guide explains how to cancel, what happens after cancellation, and your options if you want to pause or re-upgrade later.
Why Users Cancel
Common reasons users cancel Premium:
Budget constraints: Financial situation changes, need to reduce expenses Feature mismatch: Premium features aren't being used as expected Time constraints: Life changes (new job, relocation, family situation) leave no time for learning Alternative solutions: Found another learning platform that better fits needs Temporary pause: Need a break from learning but might return later
Whatever your reason, canceling is straightforward and your data remains safe.

Example:
- You're on monthly subscription, renews Aug 15
- Aug 10: You cancel
- Aug 15: Your normal charge does NOT post
- Aug 15: Premium features become unavailable
- Aug 15 onwards: You're on Free plan

What stays with you:
- All completed lessons and Boosters
- Your learning progress
- Your GapFixScore, streaks, XP, level
- Your achievements and badges
- Your saved collections and favorites

- Streak Freeze
- XP multiplier (1.25x becomes 1.0x going forward)

- Priority support
- Ad-free experience

Your profile remains intact:
- Your profile continues to exist

Step 1: Go to Upgrade
- Settings > Subscription
- Tap "Upgrade to Premium"
Step 2: Choose Plan
- Select Monthly, Quarterly, or Annual

- Add payment method if needed
- Trial begins immediately
Step 4: Premium Reactivated
- Your Premium features return
- Your data (all progress) is unchanged
- Streak Freeze and other Premium benefits available again
If You Change Your Mind Immediately
Did you cancel by mistake? Don't worry—you can re-enable your subscription:
If you canceled within the last 24 hours:
On iOS:
- Settings > Subscription
- Look for "Reactivate Subscription" or similar option
- Tap to reactivate
- Your subscription resumes and you're charged on your original renewal date
On Android:
- Settings > Subscription
- Look for "Reactivate Subscription" or similar option
- Tap to reactivate
- Your subscription resumes and you're charged on your original renewal date
If more than 24 hours have passed:
- The above option won't be available
- You'll need to re-upgrade as described in the section above
- You'll get a fresh trial period
Alternative: Pausing Instead of Canceling
Instead of canceling, you can pause your subscription:
Benefits of pausing vs. canceling:
- Temporary freeze without losing your subscription
- When you resume, you don't need a fresh trial
- Better for breaks you know are temporary
To pause:
- Settings > Subscription > Manage Plan
- Tap "Pause Subscription"
- Choose pause duration (1, 3, or 6 months)
- Confirm pause
During pause:
- Premium features are unavailable
- You're not charged
- At the end of pause, subscription automatically resumes
- When it resumes, you're charged your subscription amount
Example:
- Pause for 3 months starting Aug 15
- Aug 15 - Nov 14: Paused (no charges, no Premium features)
- Nov 15: Subscription resumes, you're charged
Cancellation Confirmation Email
After canceling, you'll receive an email from GapFix containing:
Email details:
- Confirmation that your subscription is canceled
- Your cancellation date
- Your effective date (when Premium ends)
- Your last charge amount and date
- Instructions for re-upgrading if you change your mind
- Your GapFix support contact information
Keep this email:
- Save it for your records
- Reference it if billing questions arise
- Verify the cancellation date matches your expectations
Refunds for Unused Service
Refund policy on cancellation:
- No refund for the current billing cycle you're in
- Your Premium access continues until your renewal date (you get what you paid for)
- Example: You paid $35.99 annual on Jan 1, cancel on Aug 1. No refund—you had 7 months of access. You keep Premium until Jan 1 (when the cycle ends), then revert to Free.
Why no refund:
- You had access to all Premium features during your billing cycle
- Canceling mid-cycle doesn't entitle refund for unused time (standard subscription practice)
Exceptions:
- Billing errors (if you were double-charged)
- Technical issues preventing Premium feature access for extended period
- Fraudulent charges
- Refund requests submitted within 30 days of charge
To request a refund for legitimate reasons:
- Email help@gapfix.app within 30 days of your charge
- Explain the situation
- Include your receipt number
- Support reviews and responds within 5 business days
Cancellation and Your Account
Your account status:
- Canceling Premium does NOT close your account
- Your Free account remains active
- You can still log in, access your data, and use Free features
- You can re-upgrade anytime
To actually close your account (delete all data):
- Go to Settings > Account > Delete Account
- This is separate from subscription cancellation
- Deletes all your data permanently
- This is irreversible
Most users cancel Premium but keep their Free account. Only delete your account if you're done with GapFix entirely.
Pro Tips for Canceling
Cancel early in your cycle: If you know you won't use Premium, cancel immediately rather than waiting. You keep Premium until renewal and don't feel like you wasted money.
Try pausing instead: If you think you'll return to learning, pause rather than cancel. This avoids the need for a fresh trial when re-upgrading.
Ask for feedback: When GapFix asks why you're canceling, provide honest feedback. This helps them improve.
Download your data first: Before canceling, consider downloading your learning history or certificates if you want records.
Set a reminder to re-upgrade: If you think you'll return in a few months, set a reminder to check if Premium is still valuable to you.
Troubleshooting Cancellation
Cancel button isn't appearing:
- Your subscription might already be canceled
- Check Settings > Subscription to see your current status
- If it says "Free" or "No Active Subscription," you're already canceled
Charged after canceling:
- Check your cancellation date carefully—you might have been charged on your renewal date before the cancellation took effect
- Cancellation takes effect at next renewal, not immediately
- If charged after your renewal date, contact help@gapfix.app
Can't find Settings > Subscription:
- Settings location varies by app version
- Look for "Account," "Billing," or "Subscription" in Settings
- Contact help@gapfix.app if you need help locating the subscription management screen
Want to cancel but need to keep Streak Freeze:
- Streak Freeze isn't available on Free plan
- Cancel if it's no longer valuable
- Consider pausing instead if you think you'll return
Concerned about data loss:
- Your data is 100% safe after canceling
- Everything transfers to Free plan unchanged
- You can always re-upgrade and your data is still there
Need to cancel for other reasons:
- Contact help@gapfix.app if you have questions or special circumstances
- They can help with account issues or pause/cancel assistance
