Login Issues
Login Issues
GapFix accounts are secured with industry-standard authentication to protect your learning data and progress. If you are unable to log in, this comprehensive guide will help you regain access to your account.
Common Login Problems
Login issues can occur for several reasons:
- Incorrect email address or password entered
- Account credentials were never created (first-time setup required)
- Password was forgotten or needs to be reset
- Session expired after prolonged inactivity
- Social login (Apple ID, Google) not properly connected
- Account temporarily locked due to multiple failed attempts
- Two-factor authentication issues
- Device is in offline mode
Correct Email and Password Entry
Verify you are entering the correct credentials:
Password entry tips:
- Ensure Caps Lock is not enabled (passwords are case-sensitive)
- Do not include spaces before or after your email address
- Check that your keyboard is in the correct language (if typing in another language)
- If using autofill, verify the information is correct before submitting
- For special characters in passwords, ensure you are typing the exact character
Email address verification:
- You must use the same email address used when creating your account
- Email addresses are not case-sensitive (Test@Gmail.com = test@gmail.com)
- If you are unsure of your email, check for GapFix confirmation emails in your inbox
- Look in Spam or Promotions folders if you cannot find the confirmation email
Resetting Your Forgotten Password
If you cannot remember your password:
To reset your password:
- On the GapFix login screen, tap "Forgot Password?"
- Enter the email address associated with your account
- Tap "Send Reset Link"
- Open your email and find the GapFix reset email (check spam folder if needed)
- Tap the reset link in the email
- Create a new password (must be at least 8 characters)
- Return to GapFix and log in with your new password
Password requirements:
Passwords must contain:
- At least 8 characters
- At least one uppercase letter (A-Z)
- At least one lowercase letter (a-z)
- At least one number (0-9)
- At least one special character (!@#$%^&*)
If you do not receive the reset email:
- Check your spam and promotions folders in email
- Add help@gapfix.app to your contacts to prevent future emails being filtered
- Wait 5 minutes, then request another reset link
- If still no email after 10 minutes, verify you entered the correct email address
- Try again from a different device if possible
Social Login Problems
GapFix supports signing in with Apple ID or Google Account. If social login is not working:
Apple ID login issues:
- Verify that two-factor authentication is enabled on your Apple ID (required for app login)
- Go to Settings > [Your Name] > Password & Security and verify two-factor auth is on
- Try signing out from other Apple services and signing in again
- If you recently changed your Apple ID password, use the new password
- Delete the GapFix app and reinstall it, then try social login again
Google login issues:
- Verify you are using the correct Google account (you may have multiple accounts)
- Go to myaccount.google.com and confirm your account is in good standing
- If two-factor authentication is enabled on your Google account, you may need to generate an app password
- Check if your Google account has login restrictions in place
- If issues persist, try social login again or reset your password
Reconnecting a social account:
If you previously used social login but your account is disconnected:
- Tap "Sign in with [Apple/Google]" on the login screen
- Authorize the GapFix app when prompted
- Your account should be reconnected within seconds
- If it is not recognized, the social account may not be linked to your GapFix account
- Contact support to link your social account to your existing GapFix account
Account Locked Due to Failed Login Attempts
If you have entered an incorrect password multiple times, your account may be temporarily locked for security.
If your account is locked:
- You will see a message stating "Account temporarily locked for security"
- Wait 15 minutes before attempting to log in again
- After 15 minutes, your account will automatically unlock
- Try logging in with the correct password
- If you still cannot log in, reset your password using the "Forgot Password?" option
Preventing future lockouts:
- Write down your password in a secure location (like a password manager)
- Take your time entering your password carefully
- If unsure of your password, use the reset option rather than guessing
- Use a password manager to store and auto-fill your credentials
Session Expired
If you have not used GapFix for an extended period, your session may expire, requiring you to log in again.
Why sessions expire:
- Sessions automatically expire after 30 days of inactivity
- For security reasons, you may be logged out when switching between apps
- Using GapFix on multiple devices may cause session conflicts
- Sessions expire after 90 days regardless of activity
Logging in again:
- You will see a "Session Expired" message or be directed to the login screen
- Simply enter your email and password again
- You will be directed back to where you left off
- Your progress, streaks, and GapFixScore are all preserved
Two-Factor Authentication Issues
If your account has two-factor authentication enabled:
When prompted for a verification code:
- Check your email for a code from GapFix
- If you set up authentication via authenticator app, open that app for the code
- Enter the code within 10 minutes (codes expire after this time)
- If the code is expired, return to the login screen and restart the process
- You will receive a new code when you re-enter your credentials
Lost access to authentication method:
If you can no longer access the phone number or authenticator app for 2FA:
- On the GapFix login screen, tap "Forgot Password?"
- Use your email to reset your password
- Once you've reset your password, you can log in
- Go to Settings > Security to manage two-factor authentication settings
- You may need to verify your identity through email
- Once reset, you can adjust your authentication settings as needed
Device-Specific Login Issues
Issues on iPhone:
- Ensure you have updated to the latest iOS version
- Force close the app and reopen it
- Check your device storage (ensure at least 500MB free)
- Reinstall the GapFix app if issues persist
- Check that WiFi or cellular data is enabled
Offline Mode Login Restriction
GapFix requires an internet connection to log in for security reasons. You cannot log in while in airplane mode or offline.
To log in:
- Enable WiFi or cellular data
- Return to the login screen
- Enter your credentials
- You will now be logged in and can use offline mode for previously downloaded content
