Protecting Your Streak
A streak should reward consistency, not punish a sick day. GapFix layers several protections — most of them free and automatic — so one bad day doesn't erase a month of work.
Free protection (automatic)
Weekly free Streak Shield: Every week you're automatically granted 1 free Streak Shield. If you miss a day, a shield absorbs it on its own — no action needed. You can hold up to 3 shields at a time.
24-hour recovery: Missed a day and had no shield? You get a free recovery window: complete 2 lessons within 24 hours and your streak is restored.
Weekend Shield: If you're a weekday-only learner, GapFix notices and automatically shields your weekends for free. Monday-to-Friday learners don't lose streaks to Saturdays.
Paid protection (with XP, never money)
When the free layers aren't enough, the XP store has three options:
- Streak Shield — 500 XP. Same as the free weekly one; stock up to the 3-shield cap before a risky stretch.
- Streak Repair — 800 XP. Retroactively fixes a gap of up to 2 days, if used within 48 hours. Available once per 7 days, and you can hold at most 1 repair credit.
- Rest Day — 400 XP. Book a guilt-free day off, 1 to 7 days in advance. Your streak sails through it.
Everything here is bought with XP you earned by learning — protection is never purchasable with money, and it's deliberately capped so a streak still means something.
What protection does and doesn't do
- Shields, repairs, and rest days keep your streak number intact
- They do not count as earned days — so they don't count toward a Perfect Week (7 genuinely earned days)
- They don't complete lessons or reviews for you; due reviews still wait in your Daily Practice
The cheapest protection: 2 minutes
Before spending anything, remember the Daily Practice counts as a streak day, is free and unlimited, and takes about 2 minutes. The widget on your home or lock screen deep-links straight into it, and evening streak-at-risk alerts will nudge you before midnight.
