GapFix is designed to work across a range of devices. This guide specifies the minimum and recommended device requirements for optimal performance on iPhone, iPad, and Android.
iOS Device Requirements
Minimum requirements for GapFix iOS app:
- iPhone: iOS 14.0 or later
- iPad: iPadOS 14.0 or later
- Minimum storage: 200MB free space (300MB recommended)
- Minimum RAM: 2GB (not directly controllable)
- iPhone model: iPhone 6s or later
- iPad model: iPad Air 2 or later, iPad (5th generation) or later
Recommended specifications:
- iOS version: 16.0 or later (latest major version)
- Storage: 500MB free (1GB+ recommended)
- RAM: 3GB+ available
- iPhone model: iPhone 11 or newer
- iPad model: iPad Air 4 or newer, iPad (8th gen) or newer

Storage considerations:
- App itself: 150-250MB
- Downloaded lessons (optional): 50-200MB per course
- Cache and temporary files: 100-500MB (can be cleared)
- Total with several courses: ~500MB-1GB recommended
RAM and performance:
GapFix is optimized to run on devices with 2GB RAM, but:
- 2GB RAM: Functional but may experience slowdowns with background apps
- 3GB+ RAM: Good performance, can multitask
- 4GB+ RAM: Excellent performance, no issues
- Older devices (iPhone 6s-8) may be slower to load
- Newer devices (iPhone 12+) have excellent performance

iPad Device Requirements
Minimum requirements:
- iPadOS 14.0 or later
- Storage: 300MB free
- RAM: 2GB minimum (iPad specs vary)
- iPad model: iPad Air 2 or later
Recommended specifications:
- iPadOS 16.0 or later
- Storage: 1GB free
- iPad model: iPad (8th generation) or newer, iPad Air 4 or newer
- Screen size: 10-inch or larger for best experience
- Processor: A10 Fusion or newer
iPad models that work well:
- iPad Pro (all models and sizes)
- iPad Air (3rd generation or newer)
- iPad (7th generation or newer)
- iPad mini (5th generation or newer)
iPad usage notes:
- iPad mini: Works well, though smaller screen
- iPad Air: Excellent for learning
- iPad Pro: Best experience with largest screens
- Can use with external keyboard and mouse
- Trackpad support for iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard
Internet Connection Requirements
For streaming lessons:
- Minimum: 2 Mbps download speed
- Recommended: 5 Mbps+ for smooth 720p video
- Excellent: 10+ Mbps for 4K video
Connection type:
- WiFi: Best performance, most stable
- Cellular (4G LTE): Good, works well but may buffer
- Cellular (5G): Excellent performance
- Satellite/Starlink: Works but higher latency
- Dial-up: Not supported
Data usage:
- Streaming video (480p): ~150MB/hour
- Streaming video (720p): ~300MB/hour
- Streaming video (1080p): ~600MB/hour
- Syncing progress: ~1-5MB daily
- Downloading lessons: 50-200MB per course
Storage Space Requirements
Minimum available space:
- Just using app: 500MB free recommended
- Downloading some lessons: 1GB+ recommended
- Heavy downloading/offline: 2GB+ free
Storage breakdown:
- GapFix app: 200-300MB
- Cached data: 100-500MB (can be cleared)
- Downloaded lessons: 50-200MB per course
- Temporary files: Variable
Free up space by:
- Deleting unused apps
- Clearing app caches
- Removing downloaded lessons
- Emptying trash/recently deleted
- Moving photos to cloud storage
- Using iCloud Photo Library
Processor and Performance
iPhone/iPad processors:
All phones and tablets from iPhone 6s onward meet requirements. Newer = better performance.

Older devices work but may be slower:
- A9 (iPhone 6s): Slow, but functional
- A10 Fusion (iPhone 7): Adequate
- A10 Bionic (iPhone X): Good
Android processors:
- Snapdragon 800 series: Excellent
- Snapdragon 700 series: Good
- Exynos 1000 series: Excellent
- MediaTek Helio G: Adequate
- Google Tensor: Excellent (optimized)
Memory and RAM
iPhone/iPad RAM (you cannot upgrade):
- 2GB RAM: Works but limited multitasking
- 3GB RAM: Good performance
- 4GB+ RAM: Excellent performance
Android RAM (varies by device):
- 2GB RAM: Minimum, may have slowdowns
- 3GB RAM: Good for learning
- 4GB+ RAM: Excellent performance
- 6GB+: Top-tier performance

Network and Connectivity
WiFi requirements:
- WiFi 5 (802.11ac): Good
- WiFi 6 (802.11ax): Excellent
- 2.4GHz band: Works (slower)
- 5GHz band: Better (less interference)
- Distance from router: Within 30-50 feet ideally
Cellular requirements:
- LTE (4G): Good
- 5G: Excellent
- 3G: Not recommended (too slow)
- Signal strength: 2+ bars minimum (4+ bars ideal)
Data plans:
- Unlimited or 10GB+: No concerns
- Limited data: Monitor video quality and downloads
- 2GB or less: May need to carefully manage usage
- Consider WiFi use for large downloads
Gaming and Multitasking
Simultaneous app performance:
- Don't run heavy games while using GapFix
- Games use significant GPU, video playback may stutter
- Use split-screen on iPad with lightweight second app
- Close unused apps before heavy use
Recommended approach:
- Focus on one app at a time
- Use Handoff to switch between devices
- Use split-screen on iPad with notes app
- Close browser tabs using bandwidth

Better experience:
- iPhone 11 or newer
- Latest iOS version
- 1GB+ free storage
- Consistent WiFi or 5G
- Total cost: $400-800 new
Best experience:
- iPhone 14 Pro or newer
- Latest iOS
- 2GB+ free storage
- Strong WiFi or 5G
- Optional: iPad Pro for video lessons

Device Upgrade Recommendations
If you have:
- iPhone 6s-8: Works but slow, upgrade not urgent
- iPhone X-11: Good, can wait 1-2 years
- iPhone 12-13: Excellent, no upgrade needed yet
- iPhone 14+: Latest, best performance
For iPad learning:
- iPad Air 2 or older: Works but slow, consider upgrade
- iPad Air 3+: Excellent for learning
- iPad Pro: Premium experience
For Android learning:
