Upgrading to Premium

Upgrading from Free to Premium is simple and can be done directly within the GapFix app. This guide walks you through the process step-by-step and explains what to expect before, during, and after upgrade.

Before You Upgrade

Review the differences:

  • See "Free vs Premium Plans" article for full feature comparison
  • Confirm the Premium features are valuable to you
  • Understand the billing frequency options and pricing

Ensure you have a payment method:

  • Credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express)
  • Apple Pay (if upgrading on iOS app)
  • Debit cards typically work like credit cards on most platforms

Check your account:

  • Your Free account data (plans, Boosters, achievements) transfers automatically to Premium
  • No data loss when upgrading

Step-by-Step Upgrade Process

#### Option 1: Upgrade Within the App (iOS)

Step 1: Open Settings

  1. Open GapFix on your iPhone
  2. Tap your profile icon (bottom right or top left, depending on app version)
  3. Tap "Settings"

Step 2: Find Subscription

  1. In Settings, look for "Subscription" or "Account & Billing"
  2. Tap "Subscription" or "Upgrade to Premium"

Step 3: Choose Your Plan

  1. You'll see pricing options:
  2. Read the details of each option
  3. Tap your preferred option

Step 4: Start Free Trial

  1. Tap "Start Free Trial" or "Start 7-Day Trial"
  2. You'll see the confirmation: "Try Premium Free for 7 Days"
  3. This is free—no charge yet

Step 5: Confirm Purchase

  1. Review the subscription summary
  2. Confirm your payment method (might show "Apple ID" if using Apple Pay)
  3. Tap "Confirm" or "Start Trial"
  4. You'll see a confirmation screen

Step 6: Start Using Premium

  1. You now have full Premium access
  2. Return to the app home screen
  3. Premium features are immediately available

Understanding the Trial Period

Free Trial Details:

  • First 7 days: Completely free
  • Full access to all Premium features during trial
  • No credit card charge during trial period
  • Day 8: You'll be charged your first subscription amount

Example Timeline:

  • Tuesday 10am: You start your free trial
  • Tuesday 10am - Tuesday 10am (7 days later): Free trial period
  • Following Tuesday: Your first charge posts ($3.99 monthly, $10.99 quarterly, or $35.99 annual)
  • Following Tuesday monthly: Recurring charge on same day each month/quarter/year

Notifications:

  • Day 4-5 of trial: You'll receive a notification reminding you trial is active
  • Day 6-7 of trial: Final reminder that trial is ending
  • You can cancel anytime during trial (see below)

What Happens at Charge Time

First charge:

  • Occurs on day 8 of your trial, at the same time you started the trial
  • Charges to the payment method you provided
  • Receipt emailed to your account email
  • Subscription is now active beyond the trial

Subsequent charges:

  • Monthly plan: Charges monthly on the same day (e.g., 15th of each month)
  • Quarterly: Charges every 3 months on the same day
  • Annual: Charges once a year on the same day
  • Auto-renewal is enabled by default

Canceling Your Trial (Before Charge)

If you decide Premium isn't for you during the trial:

On iOS:

  1. Go to Settings > Subscription
  2. Tap "Manage Subscription" or "Manage Plan"
  3. Tap "Cancel Free Trial" or "Cancel Subscription"
  4. Confirm cancellation
  5. Your trial ends immediately, no charge

On Android:

  1. Open GapFix on your Android device
  2. Tap your profile icon
  3. Tap "Settings"
  4. Tap "Subscription" or "Account & Billing"
  5. Tap "Manage Subscription" or "Manage Plan"
  6. Tap "Cancel Free Trial" or "Cancel Subscription"
  7. Confirm cancellation
  8. Your trial ends immediately, no charge

After Upgrade: What Changes

Immediately available:

  • Unlimited offline downloads (instead of 20 downloads limit)
  • Streak Freeze (2-4 per month depending on tier)
  • XP multiplier (1.25x instead of 1.0x)
  • Advanced analytics dashboard
  • Unlimited collections and sharing
  • Priority support access
  • Ad-free experience
  • Early access to new features

In your app:

  • Premium badge appears next to your name
  • New Premium features become available in relevant sections
  • Settings > Subscription shows you're "Premium - Active"

No data loss:

  • All your Free plan data transfers over
  • Your learning history, achievements, streaks all continue
  • Nothing is lost when upgrading

If You Cancel Premium Later

If you upgrade to Premium and later decide to cancel:

Cancellation process:

  1. Go to Settings > Subscription
  2. Tap "Manage Plan" or "Manage Subscription"
  3. Choose "Cancel Premium"
  4. Confirm cancellation

What happens:

  • Cancellation takes effect at your next billing date (you're not charged immediately)
  • You keep Premium features until your current billing period ends
  • After your current billing period, you revert to Free
  • Your data stays (no loss of learning history, achievements, etc.)
  • You can re-upgrade anytime

Example:

  • You upgrade to Premium on Jan 15 (monthly plan: $3.99)
  • You cancel on Feb 5
  • You stay Premium until Feb 15 (end of your first billing month)
  • Feb 15: No charge, you revert to Free
  • Your achievements, Boosters completed, etc. remain

Troubleshooting Upgrade Issues

Payment method declined:

  • Verify the card information is correct
  • Check that your card isn't expired
  • Ensure you have available credit
  • Try a different payment method
  • Contact your bank to check for fraud blocks

Trial button not appearing:

  • You might already be in a trial or Premium subscription
  • Check Settings > Subscription to see your current status
  • If you previously tried the trial, you might not be eligible again (one trial per account)

Premium features not showing after payment:

  • Close the app and reopen it
  • Go to Settings > Account > Sync
  • Check Settings > Subscription to confirm payment went through
  • If still not showing, contact help@gapfix.app

Charge posted but features not active:

  • Wait 5-10 minutes for data to sync fully
  • Close and reopen the app
  • Force sync via Settings > Account > Sync
  • If still not active after 10 minutes, contact support

Multiple charges appeared:

  • Check that you don't have duplicate subscriptions (might have upgraded on both app and web)
  • Contact help@gapfix.app with your receipt dates and amounts for refund review

I want to upgrade but don't have a payment method:

  • Create a PayPal account (linked to your bank account)
  • Use a prepaid credit card from retailers
  • Ask a family member to add you as an authorized user on their card
  • Wait until you have a payment method available

Payment Method Update

If your card expires or you want to change payment methods:

  1. Go to Settings > Subscription
  2. Tap "Manage Subscription" or "Manage Payment Method"
  3. Update your card information
  4. Save changes

Changes take effect for your next renewal charge.

Pro Tips for Upgrading

Start with the trial: The 7-day free trial is designed to let you experience Premium without commitment. Use it fully to understand if Premium features add value.

Choose annual for commitment: If you're confident you'll use GapFix long-term, annual billing saves 33% and shows commitment to your learning.

Upgrade when motivated: Start your trial when you're most motivated about learning (not when you're busy or demotivated). This makes the trial more valuable.

Test Streak Freeze: During your trial, intentionally use Streak Freeze to understand its value. If you'd miss learning otherwise, Premium is worth it.

Cancel if not valuable: If you try Premium and don't find value, canceling before the first charge is simple. No commitment required.
