Privacy & Data

GapFix is committed to protecting your privacy and controlling how your data is used. Here's what we collect, how we use it, and how you control it.

What Data We Collect

Account Information: Name, email, password (encrypted), profile photo, phone number (optional).

Career Information: Current and target title, industry, years of experience, location, company name, CV data.

Learning Data: Learning plan progress, completed lessons, quiz scores, booster history, time spent learning, notes you've taken.

Engagement Data: Achievements unlocked, XP earned, streak length, level, GapFixScore, devices used, login times.

Technical Data: Device type, operating system, app version, IP address, and session activity.

Interaction Data: Features you use, buttons you click, content you search for, language preferences.

How We Use Your Data

To Provide Service: Learning data powers your personalized plan, adaptive system, and progress tracking.

To Personalize: Career and engagement data shape Booster recommendations, league assignments, and difficulty levels.

To Improve: Anonymous technical and interaction data helps us improve features, fix bugs, and build new capabilities.

To Communicate: Your email is used for account notifications, learning reminders, progress summaries, and important account updates.

To Secure: Technical data detects fraud, prevents abuse, and secures your account.

We do NOT sell your data to third parties. We do NOT use your CV/resume data for any purpose other than analysis to identify your skill gaps.

Data Retention

Active Account: While you have an account, we retain all your data to provide service.

After Deletion: If you delete your account, we:

  • Immediately delete personal data (name, email, password, CV, career info)
  • Delete learning data (lessons, quizzes, progress) after 30 days (allows dispute resolution)
  • Retain anonymous engagement data indefinitely for analytics
  • Fully purge all data within 90 days

You can request immediate deletion of all data including anonymized data by contacting support.

Profile Visibility Settings

Control who sees your profile:

Public: Your name, title, photo, bio, GapFixScore, level, and achievements are visible to anyone on the internet. Your learning plan and progress remain private.

Friends Only: Only people you've connected with see your profile.

Private: Nobody can see your profile. You're completely hidden from other users. You can still see others' public profiles.

Change this anytime in Settings > Privacy > Profile Visibility.

Learning Plan Privacy

Your personalized learning plan is always private, regardless of profile visibility:

  • Quiz scores: Private to you
  • Lessons started/completed: Private to you
  • Plan progress: Not visible to leaderboards or other users
  • Notes: Private to you

Only your overall GapFixScore and level appear in leaderboards (if your profile is public/friends-only).

Leaderboards & Leagues

If you participate in leagues:

  • Your name and GapFixScore are visible to league members
  • Your learning plan details remain private
  • You can hide from leaderboards entirely in Settings > Privacy

Device Management

See all devices logged into your account:

  1. Go to Settings > Security > Devices
  2. See device type, last login, and location
  3. Tap "Sign Out" next to any device to log out remotely

If you see unfamiliar devices, immediately change your password and contact support.

Third-Party Integrations

Google/Apple Sign-In: If you sign in using Google or Apple, we receive:

  • Email address
  • Name
  • Profile photo

You can disconnect third-party access anytime in Settings > Connected Apps.

GDPR & Data Rights (EU Users)

If you're in the EU, you have rights under GDPR:

Right to Access: Request all data we hold about you. We'll provide it within 30 days.

Right to Correction: Update or correct inaccurate data.

Right to Deletion: Request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention requirements).

Right to Data Portability: Request your data in a portable format.

Right to Withdraw Consent: Opt out of non-essential processing.

Right to Object: Object to certain uses of your data.

To exercise any right, contact help@gapfix.app with "GDPR Request" in the subject.

CCPA & Data Rights (California Users)

If you're a California resident, you have rights under CCPA:

Right to Know: What personal data we collect and how it's used.

Right to Delete: Request deletion of your data (subject to exceptions).

Right to Opt-Out: Opt out of data sales (we don't sell data, but you can opt out to be sure).

Right to Non-Discrimination: We don't discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

Submit requests via Settings > Privacy > CCPA Requests or contact support.

Security Measures

We protect your data through:

  • Encryption: Data transmitted to our servers is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Storage: Data at rest is encrypted with industry-standard encryption
  • Access Controls: Employee access is limited and logged
  • Regular Audits: We conduct regular security reviews
  • Incident Response: If a breach occurs, we notify affected users within 30 days
