Pausing or Switching Plans
Life happens. GapFix lets you pause your current plan without losing progress, or switch to a different plan anytime. Here's how.
When to Pause vs. Switch
Pause If:
- You're on vacation or facing a temporary busy period
- You're still progressing but need a temporary break
- You want to keep your current plan but pause progress for a few weeks
- You plan to resume the same plan
Switch If:
- Your learning goals have changed
- You want to explore a different skill area
- You've completed your current plan and want a new one
- You want to work on two different skill areas simultaneously (Premium only)
Pausing Your Plan
Pausing keeps your current plan exactly as-is. When you resume, you pick up where you left off with zero progress lost.
To Pause:
- Go to Dashboard > My Plans
- Tap your active plan
- Tap "Plan Settings" or the menu icon
- Select "Pause Plan"
- Choose a pause reason (Optional—helps us understand your needs)
- Confirm the pause
Your plan enters "Paused" status. Notifications stop, lesson reminders pause, but your plan data remains intact.
Pause Duration:
You can pause for:
- 1 week
- 2 weeks
- 1 month
- 3 months
- Indefinite (you resume manually)
If you're paused indefinitely and don't resume within a year, your plan becomes "archived" and you'll need to start a new plan.
Resuming a Paused Plan
To Resume:
- Go to Dashboard > My Plans
- Find your paused plan (marked "Paused")
- Tap "Resume Plan"
- Confirm resumption
- Your plan immediately becomes active again
Your lessons resume at their original cadence. If you were paused for 2 weeks, your next lesson is immediately available (the system doesn't extend deadlines based on pause time—you pick up where you left off).
Updating Your Schedule:
When you resume, you can optionally adjust:
- Weekly hours available (to fit your new schedule)
- Preferred learning times (morning/afternoon/evening)
- Lesson pace (maintain current pace or catch up faster)
Switching Plans
Switching stops your current plan and starts a new one. Your old plan is archived (you can view it for reference but can't progress further).
Free Users: Can have only 1 active plan at a time. Switching overwrites your current plan.
Premium Users: Can have up to 3 active plans simultaneously. Switching adds a new plan without stopping existing ones.
To Switch Plans:
- Go to Dashboard > My Plans
- Tap your active plan
- Select "Switch Plans"
- (If Premium: Choose to keep current plan as secondary or archive it)
- You'll be guided to "Create New Plan"
- Answer questions about your current role, target role, available hours, and goals
- AI analyzes your profile and generates a new personalized plan
- The new plan becomes active immediately
Time to Create New Plan:
After answering the questions, your new plan is generated within 24 hours. You'll receive an email when it's ready. Until then, your old plan remains active.
Creating a New Plan
If you've completed a plan or want a fresh start:
Step 1: Plan Assessment
Answer questions:
- Current role and target role
- Key skill gaps (or let AI identify them from your CV)
- Available hours per week
- Learning preferences
- Specific goals for the next 90 days
Step 2: AI Analysis
GapFix analyzes your input and may ask for clarification via email.
Step 3: Plan Generation
Within 24 hours, your personalized 90-day, 12-week plan is ready.
Step 4: Activate
Click "Start Learning" to activate your new plan. Lessons become available immediately based on your preferred schedule.
Managing Multiple Plans (Premium)
Premium members can have up to 3 active plans simultaneously:
Primary Plan: Your main focus, with the most frequent lessons (3-5 per week).
Secondary Plans: Supporting skill areas, with less frequent lessons (1-2 per week).
To Manage Multiple Plans:
From Dashboard > My Plans, you see all your plans. Each has:
- A visual progress bar
- Next lesson in that plan
- Current week/theme
Tap any plan to view or pause it independently. Pausing one plan doesn't affect others.
Weekly Hours Distribution:
You set your total weekly hours (e.g., 10 hours) and distribute them across plans:
- Plan 1: 6 hours (primary)
- Plan 2: 3 hours (secondary)
- Plan 3: 1 hour (exploratory)
Adjusting Plan Pace
Even while keeping your plan, you can adjust your pace:
Accelerate: Complete more lessons per week. Useful if you're crushing the material and want faster progress.
Slow Down: Spread lessons over more weeks. Useful if life gets busier or you need more time to master concepts.
Pause Temporarily: Pause for a few weeks without abandoning the plan.
To adjust pace, go to My Plans > Plan Settings > Adjust Pace.
Plan Completion
When you finish all 12 weeks (lessons and final quiz):
Completion Summary: See your stats—lessons completed, average quiz score, total XP earned, achievements unlocked.
Reflection: Answer a few questions about what you learned and how you've applied it in your work.
Completion Certificate: Download a PDF certificate showing your plan completion date and achievement (useful for LinkedIn, resumes, or professional development records).
Next Steps: Choose to:
- Start a new plan immediately
- Revisit your completed plan as a reference
- Take a break and resume later
Archiving Plans
Completed or old plans can be archived to keep your active list clean:
To Archive:
- Go to My Plans
- Tap the plan (completed or paused)
- Select "Archive"
- Confirm
Archived plans are hidden from your main list but remain accessible in "Archived Plans" for reference.
Tips for Plan Management
Plan Duration: Most plans take 90 days at a normal pace (3-5 lessons/week). If you're busier, extend to 16 weeks. If you accelerate, complete in 6-8 weeks.
One Plan at a Time (Free): Free users should focus on one plan to maximize benefit. Switching constantly prevents deep mastery.
Balance Multiple Plans (Premium): If you have multiple plans, balance them—don't let one completely stall while others accelerate.
Reflect Before Switching: Before switching, take a moment to reflect on what you learned from your current plan and how you've applied it.
Schedule Consistency: Maintain consistent learning times across plan pauses/switches. Habit matters more than plan type.
